Normality Returns As Qantas Flights Take To the Sky

Qantas Airways says everything is normal! Yes, one of the world’s largest airlines that grounded each and every flight just two days ago says everything is normal.

The airline stated that its flight schedule was back to normal from Tuesday morning. It also said that the remaining backlog of travellers that ensued because of the fleet grounding is expected to be cleared up by afternoon.

Travellers around the world were left high and dry as the Australia’s flag carrier decided to put a halt to its operations on Saturday. Airports in Australia wore scenes of chaos as travellers pressed the panic button when they found that none of Qantas flight will take off. Those with cheap flight tickets with Qantas were perhaps most badly hit as budget travellers book much in advance with the airline that is not exactly known for offering cheap tickets on its flights.

Government interference and an Australian court ruling put an end to 48 hours of travel chaos.

On its part, it seems that Qantas Airways was fed up of the never-ending string of strikes that caused huge losses and huge embarrassment for the company in last few months. Unions representing pilots, aircraft mechanics, baggage handlers and caterers are engaged in a bitter dispute with the airline over off-shoring of jobs and other issues.

Qantas Airways hopes to turn the tide in its favour by attracting passengers by reducing airfares on its flights, as per reports.

The airline really needs to turn into a Santa if it wants its own Christmas holiday season to be a good one!

A Holiday in the Most Livable City in the World - Melbourne

Australia spoils for choice; even when it comes to selecting your port of entry into the country. Well, it did not for me!!

Melbourne has recently been awarded as the most liveable city in the world for 2011. And I decided to book flights to Melbourne for a city-break holiday, ignoring close contender Sydney. A good availability of tickets on cheap flights to Melbourne was an equally important factor!

My travel on connecting flights to Melbourne with British Airways and Thai Airways proved pretty rewarding for the wonderful in-flight service (Thai hospitality in the air was something to die for). The 30 minutes drive from Melbourne airport (or Tullamarine Airport) to my hotel in central Melbourne clearly explained why the city is the most liveable city in the world.

The reliable and efficient transportation facilities in the city make Melbourne one of the most 'comfortable to explore' cities. The bus tours and helicopter tours are great ways to travel down under and to enjoy a trip to all the major attractions.

It was a good idea to have booked my cheap flights to Melbourne in March. The Melbourne Food and Wine festival was every bit worth the money spent on my flight tickets and hotel.

The city’s attractions did cause the problem of plenty for me though. The Penguin Parade at Phillip Island, Melbourne Museum, Eureka Skydeck 88, the legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground, Old Melbourne Gaol, National Gallery of Victoria International, and the Royal Botanic Gardens make any Melbourne holiday unforgettable. They made mine!! Just make sure you carry an extra memory card for your digital camera!! was a testament to the after disembarking my flights and at Melbourne and heading to my hotel With a great infrastructure and lifestyle, Melbourne has managed to win the tag of being the most-liveable city in the world in 2011 and thus tempt many to book tickets to travel to this dreamland.

A local at the carnival suggested me to book advance cheap flights to Melbourne in November when the city hosts another vivacious fest, the Wangaratta Jazz Festival that features boundless events and performances by many world-renowned musical artists. Being a music enthusiast, I took his advice and booked cheap flights to Melbourne for November too. Plus, the lure to visit the city again, this time with my family, was quite irresistible.

The two major airports of Melbourne are "Wow". The International airlines such as Qantas Airways and Jetstar Airways land at Melbourne International Airport whereas all the domestic flights head towards the Avalon Airport.

Quite a few travellers book cheap flights to Chicago for a taste of the windy city’s hospitality. One of the best times to visit the destination is the ‘Taste of Chicago’ food festival. This festival is supposed to be the biggest of its kind in the world.

Travellers planning to take their flights to Chicago just before 24th June are lucky indeed. Yes, the allusion is to the mega event ‘Taste of Chicago’. Tentatively slated to be held from 24th June to 3rd July, the Taste of Chicago is biggest event in Chicago and also the largest outdoor food festival in the world. More than 3 million visitors attend this festival every year. As of now, the timings are 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and as per the present schedule, the festival will come to an end at 7:00 p.m. on 3rd July. Taste of Chicago has definitely come a long way since its humble beginnings as a somewhat small food festival in 1980.

Food

The menu includes over 300 varieties of food items from more than 70 food vendors and restaurants. So, if you are booking your cheap flights to Chicago, look forward to a delightful travel experience of a world of local Chicago as well as multi ethnic culinary wonders. Right from giant Turkey legs to goat biryani and banana dumplings filled with minced pork and a dozens of other cuisines in between are served here. One also gets the chance to watch Chicago’s top most wine experts and chefs in action at the Dominick’s Cooking Corner. For food buffs, the Chicago Food Festival is probably the best time for booking flights to Chicago.

Musical Delights

Music freaks catching their cheap flights to Chicago can also look forward to some gala moments. Heart pounding, free concerts are held on every single day of the entire length of the festival. The most in demand performances take place at the Petrillo Music Shell, where well known music personalities entertain the crowds. Local and regional acts are also held on the numerous other stages. The Petrillo Music Shell has a limited seating space and no tickets are sold for the performances. Entry is granted on a first come first serve basis. So, if you don’t want to miss out on the fun, be there as early as possible. The place opens half an hour before the start of performances. One can also sit in the lawn. In fact, quite a few guests even bring their own chairs.

Charges

By and large, 'The Chicago Food Festival’ is a free event. However, food and drinks are not available for free. Guests are permitted to bring their own meals but it makes no sense to do so as food is the star attraction at the festival. Purchases can exclusively be made through tickets. The tickets are available in strips and every strip has 12 tickets. These strips cost $8. While soft drinks require about 4 tickets, 6-7 tickets are required for side portions, and 9 to 10 tickets for large items. If you are a die hard food buff, try out the small ‘Taste’ portion offered by the daily restaurants for 2 to 3 tickets. This way, one gets to dig into many of the cuisines available at the Taste of Chicago.

Useful Information on Taste of Chicago

The venue is Grant Park north-south between Balbo Drive and Monroe Avenue, east/west between Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue.

Visitors can use Mastercard, Visa, and American Express credit cards for buying the tickets for food and beverages. One needs to carry adequate identification proof for using a card.

If you have infants, try to use a baby carrier or sling instead of a stroller as the ‘Taste of Chicago’ is a heavily crowded affair. If a stroller is indispensable, try to get hold of the smallest possible one.

If you plan to take your pet dog on your Chicago holidays, be informed that dogs are not allowed on the grounds of the ‘Taste of Chicago’.

Those British passport holders who have found cheap flights to Thailand don’t have to wait to book them! British nationals don’t have to get hold of a visa in advance as long as they don’t stay in the country for more than 30 days. A longer tour necessitates a valid visa or extension of stay.

They must know that overstaying during a visit to the country can result in this effort going down the drain as the fine for this offence is 500 baht for every day of overstay. Overstaying can also bring one’s Thailand holiday to an abrupt end as overstaying can result in deportation. The cost has to be borne by the defaulter.

Visas should not be taken from travel agents or visa shops as such visas can be illegal. In fact, one should only acquire a visa from a Consulate, the Thai Embassy, an Immigration Office around Thailand, or an Immigration Officer at a point of entry to the country.
